It was first celebrated in 1903, and has traditionally been held since the last week of May and early June. This is the period during which the oil-bearing Kazanlak rose blooms. Today, the Rose Festival has become an international celebration, which entertains thousands of tourists and guests of the city of Kazanlak. The program includes the selection and coronation of "Queen Rose", the rituals "rose picking" and "rosary", as well as a festive procession - carnival.
